Finding Your Niche in the Cloud
MSP-01
Founder & EVP of Sales & Marketing
Green Cloud Technologies
How do traditional hardware VARs and MSPs pivot their businesses into cloud services? This presentation will discuss the fear and trepidation many resellers feel about jumping into the cloud, and then explains how they can overcome those fears with three key understandings about the nascent industry. First, they must realize that they don’t have to sell “cloud-everything” or transition their entire business to a new thing. Second, by identifying their organization’s niche in the market, they can find a cloud offering that enhances their portfolio and makes sense for their business. Finally, they don’t have to build a cloud solution from the ground up. By partnering with a reliable cloud provider, they can deliver the services their customers demand without the expense and commitment of operating a data center. Once they find their cloud niche, traditional resellers can leverage the benefits of cloud services to expand their business, build recurring revenue, and create new opportunities in a rapidly-growing technology segment.

The Modern MSP: Recurring Revenues and New Business Opportunities from Office 365
MSP-01a
Director, Sales Engineering
Telstrat
According to IDC, the cloud opportunity will exceed $500 Billion by 2020. This is a huge opportunity for MSPs, especially those part of the Microsoft Partner Ecosystem. These partners, however, have challenges to overcome. Many MSPs lack the background and know-how to sell new services, do not have the technical expertise or certifications to easily integrate new offerings and cannot afford additional time and resources to manage and support the constant evolution of the cloud market. To remain competitive, MSPs must move away from the traditional ways of thinking and become “modern MSPs.” This session will address ways they can do that, leveraging Office 365, including an overview of the latest services, requirements for ongoing cloud enablement, and real-world business models and strategies for increasing revenues.

The way telecom, managed services, cloud, and hosting purchasing decisions are made is changing. Today, because IT influencers and decision makers are doing so much upfront research, often 70 percent or more of their decisions have already been made before you’re even looped into the conversation. This can put you at a huge disadvantage if you haven’t drawn their attention through market differentiation. Likewise, for those MSPs that have, this change in decision-making theory presents an opportunity to get earn a seat at the table as a highly-differentiated trusted advisor. This session will detail how to ensure you get found early enough in the buyer’s journey to matter, stand out from the crowd, command premium pricing, and attract world-class clients and talent.

Regulatory compliance management and requirements, such as PCI and HIPAA, among many others, touch nearly every type of organization. A rapidly growing number of organizations are feeling the pain of not having the right tools and/or the right personnel to manage these requirements. Why Automation is Critical for MSPs to Succeed
MSP-03
Director, Business Development

MSPs often feel greater impact from technology evolution – simply because often have a broad service portfolio. Among the trends that can benefit MSPs the most today is automation, because it will allow MSPs to focus on their service delivery during a time when competition is heavier than ever and the nature of having to manage and deliver multiple offerings increases complexity exponentially. This session will explain why process automation is a must for MSPs looking to increase their value to existing customers while continuing to scale their operations.

Panel: Cut the UC Hype: Which Deployment Model is Right for You?
BCE-08
Email, mobile phones, landlines, instant messaging, text messaging, web conferencing and video chat—there are more ways to communicate than ever. Because some companies aren’t adopting enterprise-grade communication tools, employees are even downloading their own tools – turning to Skype, Slack, Google Docs and other collaboration tools. But even with all of these options readily available, connecting and collaborating with others can be challenging. By streamlining and standardizing communication and collaboration efforts with a modern UC solution, staff can work the way they want, where and when they want. The benefits of UC are clear, but a major question is the best way to deploy. A one-size-fits-all deployment doesn’t actually fit all. This session will explore the different options (virtualized, on-premises, cloud, hybrid) and the pros and cons of each, as well as how to choose which deployment method works best for your business. Attendees will walk away with a greater knowledge of each deployment model in order to determine which one is the most suitable for their business. Additionally, VARs and resellers will gain deeper understanding of how they can help guide their customers to select the best deployment model.

SMB owners are often challenged to ensure vital business systems are always accessible. They depend on their IT network to be always available, and cannot afford costly failures. Any number of things can go wrong, from failing equipment to unexpected slowdowns and outages. Owners and personnel are focused on managing their businesses and may lack the expertise to monitor critical systems. Some tools are not especially user friendly, may lack the ability to predict failures or provide corrective recommendations. This session highlights some of the challenges faced by SMBs, and covers network management solutions that MSPs can offer, to provide a single integrated solution that makes network management easy.

Data is the new natural resource that is transforming industries and professions. Cognitive computing is redefining and re-imagining how we interact with data. To succeed in the Cognitive era, businesses must deliver applications that collect and mine oceans of data for actionable insights to gain a competitive edge. To enable this, a next-generation hybrid cloud infrastructure must connect data from all sources, including traditional enterprise systems as well as mobile data. This infrastructure must dynamically and economically deal with an explosion in data volume and it must deliver the computing power necessary to perform the analytics flexibly and with high performance.

New technologies like mobile devices and the cloud have given businesses the ability to rapidly adopt new business models. With rapid changes in business come rapid changes in the roles of people and technologies. A user’s identity, role and their workplace (location/device) will define their workspace that can consist of both traditional apps or new emerging cloud or mobile apps. Offering multiple services to meet the needs of unique users is a good thing, but delivering different experiences across those services is no longer acceptable. The experience needs to be seamless across scenarios, user groups and devices. This session will discuss the mindset shift that leaders must make in order to thrive within this digital disruption and share best practices that they can implement to ensure a seamless experience within their own businesses.

Due to competition and commoditization, managed service providers have essentially become VARs, reselling hardware and offering proprietary routers and servers to their subscribers. This business model offers very low profit margins. Compounding this challenge is both fierce competition from adjacent sectors including OTT and broadband providers, as well as increasingly DevOps-focused customers forcing service providers to develop and provision managed services more rapidly. At the same time, business goals require regular increases in top-line service revenue through more robust service offerings and improve service profitability. The good news is that NFV technology can help restore a service provider’s service profitability by making it easier to design and roll out new services while ditching complex and expensive proprietary hardware. Service providers won’t just see new revenue, but will watch their CapEx and OpEX drop by up to 80 percent! This panel will discuss how virtualized network functions (VNFs) can augment an MSP’s offerings, increase margins, agility and total addressable market.

WiFi is no longer a nice-to-have; rather, it's a requirement for operating a successful business. But, much like any other IT operation, WiFi can be a resource drain, which is why we're seeing WiFi services domain with several providers having already launched WiFi as a Service offerings. The concept of Network as a Service relieves IT teams of the burden of managing WiFi networks, while giving MSPs an additional recurring revenue stream into which they can tap. In fact, recent research suggests 64 percent of SMBs are interested in WiFi as a Service. This session will discuss the growth of WiFi as a Service, the addressable market, as well as the latest generation of services, including artificial intelligence-driven Smart WiFi as a Service.

The cloud delivery of communications and collaboration services is well underway. While the values for end user organizations is fairly well understood, the impacts and challenges for traditional telecom CARs is still being resolved. The cloud business model rewards scale in efficiency and cost, often making it hard to develop for smaller channels. Some estimates have placed the minimum number of subscribers required for an effective cloud business at over 500,000, creating a challenge for some providers. The business models for channel partners for cloud vendors is equally murky, with some offers seeming to be structured to the VAR and some to the agent model. Managing this business transition is the next challenge for channel still coping with VoIP and price erosion. This session will feature analysis of the market and a panel of leading cloud providers and VARs discussing (and re-defining, if necessary) this perceived threshold for success, how the success can be achieved and how it's defined, and how the market is reacting to the transition to a cloud model and how to model can be adapted to accommodate different channel partners.

The growing API Economy is driving an Anything as a Service environment, which means that businesses are no longer bound to local IT and communications vendors. Rather, they can now seek out MSPs that are able to deliver some or all of the services businesses by writing apps to leverage available APIs. The nature of MSPs – building their businesses on the ability to together multiple services into cohesive packages – makes them a natural fit for the API marketplace. As they continue to evolve offers and integrate new services using APIs, there will be hurdles to overcome, and best practices for doing so. This panel will discuss those issues, including the types of APIs available and from whom, how to ensure different APIs work well together, which APIs are most useful for their objectives, and more.
