Dr. Burger is a Professor at Georgetown University. He was on detail to the White House as the Assistant Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy and prior to that on detail to Federal Communications Commission as its CTO. Dr. Burger contributed to the Secure 5G and Beyond Act Implementation Plan, as well as ensured funding and support for the R&D and scaling of 5G IoT, smart city, and mobile applications. His research and teaching covers cybersecurity, distributed computing, DLT, systems economics and risk, policy, and network governance. He serves as an advisor to numerous companies and prior to his government service served on corporate boards. Prior to Georgetown he was CTO of several public and private network equipment and enterprise software companies. Dr. Burger holds over 20 patents and has published over 20 IETF, 3GPP, and W3C standards. He served on numerous industry association boards. He is a Distinguished Member of the Association for Computing Machinery and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He has a SBEE, MBA, and PhD from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
